A Tribe Called Quest front man Q-Tip has been trying to release his album Kamaal the Abstract for eight years. Recorded in 2001 the album fell victim to corporate mergers and lack of interest from label executives.
Today 'Tip finally gets his due. On the heels of his last and most critically acclaimed solo release, The Renaissance (2008), Jive made the jump and released the album. Bootlegs have been floating around for years but were nearly impossible to find, even on the largest file-sharing sites.
It's an album full of jazzy, mellow hip hop tracks, strong lyricism and great beats. Available on iTunes and Amazon today.
