Big media companies try all the time to make viral videos and otherwise copy things that work in pop culture. The result is usually an expensive, embarrassing failure.
Fox bucked the trend and seems to have hit the nail on the head with their "Stewie Meets Wall Street" video. In a rare show of creativity they spliced together scenes from Oliver Stone's epic "Wall Street" with scenes from Family Guy. The result? The kind of viral video that big media companies have been trying to create for years.
In the past only small-time bloggers have been able to remix video clips and capture millions of views on YouTube. Fox did it, and did it well. In the process they created a marketing vehicle for the 20th anniversary re-release of "Wall Street" and the new Family Guy DVDs.
